florence, eh?

its a fantastic town, truly. youre missing the brutal season, but you'll find that those who travel through florence often hate it: theres often more english spoken on the streets than italian. but those who linger will find a home away from home unlike any other.

youll see.

a few tips:
1- if youre going with the program, everyone will fall in love with the irish pubs right away. the experiences that youll cherish are not to be found there, though every now and then theyre great for sitting around and getting pissed off guinness.

find your own places, theres an infinite number to choose from.

2-make it upto Fiesole. for the sunset. while its still nice. (you can take a city bus for some reason i think its #17)

3-there is a church called san miniato by the piazza michelangelo. the monks sing vespers there daily at like 6 oclock. its nothing short of moving.

4-by the piazza de libertad there is a street called madonna della tosse. its inbetween the chinese restaurant and the amphitheater. there lies the great Braumeister pub. for the love of god, get a liter of Lowenbrau Triumphador for me. (the munchies are great too)

5-gelato. as often as you can stand.

6-wanna get high? go after nightfall to the stairs right in front of the santa croce church. its a crazy scene with a plethora of young people chilling out. if you walk around, or just ask anyone, you can pick up hash there. when buying from locals as a foreigner there are two rules - #1-always ask for more and #2-ask for a little more again. be forewarned that if youre on a budget rolling it in joints is kindof wasteful, though convenient. best to do small bowls (or gravity bongs) to make it last.

i know youll love it.
its gonna change you.

oooo Dierkes. I cannot believe you are already off to Florence. I'm still lounging around the states with nothing and do and no one from home to see. I leave Sept. 17th, and here's my email address dema9207@muhlenberg.edu, if you wanna email me so we can meet up. SOOOOOO excited!
